Secretary of Defence Industries, Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, met with Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in Warsaw on June 11 to discuss the further expansion of bilateral defence industrial cooperation, collaboration in unmanned systems, technology transfer opportunities, and reciprocal investments. The meeting, held at the Polish Ministry of National Defence, was attended by Deputy Minister of National Defence Paweł Bejda and the Head of the Armament Agency, Major General Artur Kuptel.
Speaking to the press following the meeting, Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz praised Türkiye's remarkable transformation in the defence sector, describing it as one of the most significant defence industrial success stories in the world.
Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz: “Türkiye has achieved one of the greatest leaps in the world in the defense industry.”
Noting that only around 20% of equipment procured for the Turkish Armed Forces originated from domestic industry two decades ago, compared to approximately 80% today, Kosiniak-Kamysz stated: “This is one of the greatest leaps achieved anywhere in the world. No other country has accomplished such a transformation on this scale.” He added that Poland is pursuing a similar path and closely follows the experience and achievements of its NATO ally Türkiye.
According to the Polish Defence Minister, one of the key topics discussed during the meeting was cooperation in unmanned systems and long-range precision strike capabilities. He emphasized that Türkiye's achievements in these fields are of particular interest to Poland and highlighted plans to further enhance the operational capabilities of the Bayraktar unmanned aerial systems already in service with the Polish Armed Forces.
Responding to questions from journalists, Kosiniak-Kamysz said that technology transfer, information exchange, and joint development opportunities constituted important elements of the discussions. He noted that Türkiye's expertise in unmanned systems and long-range precision strike technologies could contribute significantly to the development of Poland's defence industrial capabilities.
The two sides also discussed opportunities for expanding bilateral industrial cooperation through reciprocal investments. Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that increased Turkish investments in Poland and Polish investments in Türkiye would elevate bilateral relations to a new level.
The Polish Defence Minister further confirmed that the electronic warfare and counter-drone systems contract signed with ASELSAN last year is progressing according to schedule and without any major obstacles.
Addressing broader security issues, Kosiniak-Kamysz underlined Türkiye's indispensable role in Europe's future security architecture and argued that Europe's long-term security framework cannot be durable without Türkiye's participation. Emphasizing Türkiye's position as NATO's second-largest military force, the Polish Defence Minister expressed support for greater Turkish participation in future European defence and security initiatives. He also announced that Poland intends to play a significant role in the defence industry event being organized in Ankara alongside the upcoming NATO Summit.
