The CAm. Roman (261) Light Corvette, built under the main contractor ASFAT at the İstanbul Naval Shipyard Command for the Romanian Ministry of National Defence, has successfully completed live-fire activities in the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea.
ASFAT announced that the vessel recently carried out a series of live-firing exercises, demonstrating the operational readiness of its weapon systems and marking another important milestone in the program.
The acquisition contract for the CAm. Roman Light Corvette was signed in December 2025 between ASFAT and the Romanian Ministry of National Defence. The signing ceremony was attended by Romanian Interim Minister of Defence and Minister of Economy Radu Miruță, as well as Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of National Defence and ASFAT Chairman Musa Heybet. The agreement was signed by ASFAT CEO Prof. Dr. Mustafa İlbaş and Brigadier General Ion Cornel Plaşa, Chief of the General Directorate of Armaments of the Romanian Ministry of National Defence.
The program also includes the export of the 76 mm Naval Gun developed by MKE. Having already entered service with the Turkish Navy, the system represents the first export success of Türkiye’s indigenous naval gun program. With the Romanian sale, MKE joined a select group of countries capable of designing, manufacturing and exporting medium-calibre naval artillery systems.
The successful completion of the live-fire activities highlights the progress achieved in the project and further demonstrates the growing capabilities of Türkiye’s naval shipbuilding and defence industries in international markets.
